Classic rock is not only a genre, but it's also a radio station programming format which actually grew from album oriented rock format from the early 1980's.Classic rock are songs ranging from mid-1960's to early 1980's. Classic rock is a loosely defined genre. Classic rock stations are still incredibly popular to those who grew up within that era and have come to appreciate classic rock stations for their limited amount of play.

Some classic rock bands are the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Procol Harum, Queen- just to name a few.

Examples of classic rock songs are "Born to Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf. Kiss' "Rock and Roll all Night" is also considered a classic rock song. Though these bands created several other songs, these are definitively classic rock songs.

Classic rock videos also exist, many of them can be seen on infomercial for classic rock, such as an album containing hundreds of classic rock songs, including the top 100 classic rock songs. Typically, the early videos contain the band playing to the audience, whereas later videos have actual stories and acting within their classic rock videos.
