My nephew is in his senior year of high school, and has become quite the guitar player. He has a knack for music, and can listen to classic rock songs once, and play the bass guitar accompaniment perfectly after hearing the song just once. He listens to classic rock stations almost exclusively, although once in a while he tunes into heavy metal, which drives me up the wall. He took to the bass guitar instantly, once he started playing, and his musical ability is second to none. My sister, his aunt, has been teaching him music theory, which is almost a requirement for him to develop as a musician.
It's amazing how the classic rock bands still appeal to young people. The music of the 70's and 80's has lived on, and perhaps it will stand the same test of time that earlier music forms have, like classical music and opera. Some of the top 100 classic rock songs are played on the radio frequently, so it is likely that these songs will keep their place in history, and go into the future as a bona fide genre with universal and timeless appeal.
