Another of the classic rock bands that reminds me of my early childhood is Supertramp. They were one of Britain’s most successful classic rock bands of the late seventies and early eighties. I think Supertramp have stayed in my memory because the distinctive voice of singer Roger Hodgson got on my nerves. Of all Supertramp’s classic rock songs, Give a Little Bit is the one I remember most. If you watch the above video clip you will see and Supertramp performing this song, which is apparently a call to share your love with your fellow man. Unfortunately it is not the peaceful meaning of Give a Little Bit that makes it so distinctive to me. I remember it so well because it is the song in which Roger Hodgson’s voice irritated me most. I think his voice is too high pitched for that of a man and it always seemed to me that he was either pleading or whining. I guess his voice is polarizing, listeners will either love or hate it. Watch the above video clip and decide for yourself if you like his voice. Regardless of Hodgson’s high pitched singing, Supertramp are still one of Britain’s most popular classic rock bands.
