My husband loves all of the old songs by classic rock bands. They remind him of his youth and make him feel nostalgic. My husband also commutes for over an hour each day when he goes to and from work. When he isn’t listening to audio books to pass the time during his commute, he tunes in to classic rock stations on the radio. He has access to more of his favorite classic rock stations since I bought him a Sirius Satellite Radio for Christmas a few years back. My husband also tunes in to classic rock stations when we travel to see his family in the western region of the state of Maryland. He likes to sing along. It sometimes gets on my nerves because he looks like a total dork when he does it. Furthermore, he’s tone deaf so his singing sounds terrible. However, I try to tolerate it, at least for a little while, because I know that listening to these classic rock songs gives him pleasure. I only wish he were as open-minded about my penchant for jazz and R&B.

And, let me tell you, nothing can drain you like a road trip or two, especially if you're out there traveling the highways on a business trip! But, I've found a great way to keep my energy up while driving--I take along a great collection of the best classic rock songs to keep me company, and more importantly, to keep me energized.

Nothing can pump me up quite like the pounding sounds of the best classic rock songs--that's why I always travel with classic rock greatest hits tunes.
If you listen to classic rock bands, you probably have your favorite classic rock videos and your own selection of favorite classic rock songs. We all do, but have you ever wondered what are the top 100 classic rock songs? I was curious about what the top 100 classic rock list of songs would include so I did a Google and I was surprised at many of the songs on the list. In fact, I do not even consider some of the songs to be classic rock music at all. On the list were songs like "Imaginary Lover" by the Atlanta Rhythm Section and "Hello Its Me" by Todd Rundgren. I do not know about your tastes in music but these are not classic rock songs. This music falls more into the "easy listening" category in my opinion. Now if you want to listen to the top 100 classic rock songs, you have to include bands like ZZ Top, AC/DC, 38 Special, Lynard Skinnard, Rolling Stones, Ted Nugent, etc. Sorry, but "How Much Love" by Leo Sayer does not cut it as a classic rock song!

<img title="Classic Rock Songs" alt="classic rock songs, top 100 classic rock songs" Rock Songs" src="http://admin.moguling.com/Upload/classicrock247.com/Purple Rain.jpg" />
Prince’s Purple Rain is, in my opinion, one of the best classic rock songs ever recorded. It is definitely the most emotional of all classic rock songs I have ever heard. The song Purple Rain comes from the 1984 album of the same title. The sound of the song combines gospel, pop and rock. The lyrics of the song Purple Rain are poignant. They seem to be an apology from a man who has been having an forbidden love affair with a woman who already has a boyfriend or husband. To judge by the lyrics, the woman has taken the affair more seriously than the man and her feelings have been hurt.
Good classic rock songs never lose their appeal. Instead, they transcend generations. The song Purple Rain is a powerful ballad capable of moving both young and old. One would have to be totally devoid of any emotion not to be enthused by the song Purple Rain. Prince’s masterpiece is definitely on my personal list of the top 100 classic rock songs. I will never get tired of hearing it.

One of 10cc’s most memorable classic rock songs is I’m Not in Love. It seems to me that I’m Not in Love could well be the most obsessive of all classic rock songs. It is another of the classic rock songs I heard frequently as a child. I remember wondering about the lyrics, which sound rather insulting when taken at face value.
I’m Not in Love is a song about a man who has fallen in love with a woman but is too macho and emotionally distant to admit it to her or even himself. Therefore he has to create excuses to justify the fact that he wants to spend time with her, calls her up and has her picture hanging on his wall. To my way of thinking, the man described in the song is the type who has had a lot of casual, meaningless relationships and doesn’t have too much respect for women. He has fallen in love against his better judgment and hates the fact that he cannot get the woman in question out of his mind. The meaning of I’m Not in Love makes it more realistic than many classic rock songs. There definitely are men out there who hate the idea of falling in love and aren’t at all happy about it when it eventually happens to them.

They were one of Britain’s most successful classic rock bands of the late seventies and early eighties. I think Supertramp have stayed in my memory because the distinctive voice of singer Roger Hodgson got on my nerves. Of all Supertramp’s classic rock songs, Give a Little Bit is the one I remember most. If you watch the above video clip you will see and Supertramp performing this song, which is apparently a call to share your love with your fellow man. Unfortunately it is not the peaceful meaning of Give a Little Bit that makes it so distinctive to me. I remember it so well because it is the song in which Roger Hodgson’s voice irritated me most. I think his voice is too high pitched for that of a man and it always seemed to me that he was either pleading or whining. I guess his voice is polarizing, listeners will either love or hate it. Watch the above video clip and decide for yourself if you like his voice. Regardless of Hodgson’s high pitched singing, Supertramp are still one of Britain’s most popular classic rock bands.

Because my dad played records far more than he read books or watched TV, my older sister and I were almost obliged to love music, too. My father played a lot of classic rock songs in our house when we were growing up. One of the first classic rock songs I can ever recall hearing is Scottish singer Gerry Rafferty’s Baker Street. This song is about Rafferty’s time busking on the streets of London. I must have been very young when I first heard Baker Street, because it was released in 1978, the year I turned two. Perhaps I vividly recall listening to Baker Street because I thought it one of the best classic rock songs my father had. I still think Baker Street is one of the best classic rock songs around. I love the vocals, percussion, saxophone and lyrics of the song. I found Baker Street among the classic rock videos on the YouTube website. It still sounds just as great as it did when I was a kid, if not better.

Wells. This novel made me recall one of my earliest memories of the best classic rock songs. I heard many classic rock songs when I was a young child in the late 1970s. Of all the classic rock songs I heard, Jeff Wayne’s The Eve of the War is the most memorable. I remember it more readily than other classic rock songs because my father used it to frighten me. My dad has always had a slightly warped sense of humor, and he liked to pretend he was an alien whenever this song came on. He would pull monster faces and sing the nonsense word “Oolah!” in a terrible voice at the climax of the song, and I would scream in horror and run to hide behind the sofa. I think it was quite evil of him and I know my mother used to scold him for it. I was only three or four years old when he did this. Unlike other classic rock songs, The Eve of the War terrified me when I was a kid. Just hearing the opening bars of this song was enough to send me into a panic. I phoned my dad yesterday to remind him of his cruelty. He later sent me an email message written in big bold text. It read, ‘Oolah! Sleep Well.”

My favorite Van Morrison song is Sweet Thing. I also love TB Sheets, which is ballad about Van visiting a friend who was dying of tuberculosis in hospital and not being able to handle it. Because the subject matter is morbid and the music has a heavy blues influence, TB Sheets will never be considered by most as one of the best classic rock songs, yet I still think it is great. TB Sheets is too much for some people because it is a little too honest. However, in my opinion the frankness of TB Sheets is what makes it so great. I also love the sound of the harmonica in this song.

However, I was still amused and a little surprised when I looked at him to see why the sofa was moving and he was totally rocking out. He looked very much like someone’s dad who has had one beer to many at a party, but he was having so much fun that I managed to resist the urge to mock him until he was finished.
Since there are countless classic rock songs, you may be wondering what track opens the movie Dazed and Confused. The song in question is Sweet Emotion by Aerosmith. I managed to find a live version of this song among the classic rock videos on the You Tube site. This song was first released one year before I was born. However, I don’t think it is at all outmoded.

There is nothing more satisfying on a rainy day than to get under the covers and listen to classic rock greatest hits. I believe that the best classic rock greatest hits were made in the 80’s with bands like Poison, Motley Crew, AC/DC, Def Lepperd etc. The classic rock greatest hits of the eighties just seemed to have a lot more substance to it. These classic rock songs had deeper lyrics than today’s rock music. Anytime I hear rock music today, it seems to me to be a bit too angry. This is not to say that the eighties classic rock greatest hits were not infused with some anger, but they were not as angry as the ones I hear today. I think one of the reason why this is so, is because the eighties classic rock songs did not have all the technological advancement that we have today to make any song no matter how bad it is to sound good and therefore had to put a lot more energy into the lyrics. In addition, the etiquette that classic rock greatest hits had to follow to make it on the air was more stringent since there were a lot less radio stations all over the nation and let’s not even talk about the internet. If you’ve never had the pleasure of listening to the 80’s classic rock greatest hits, take a rainy day off and you will hear what you have been missing

I recently realized I have missed out a very important artist. I forgot all about Jimi Hendrix. Songs such as Foxy Lady, Hey Jude and Red House regularly feature on classic rock stations. However, I like All Along the Watchtower more than the rest. It is definitely one of the best classic rock songs I’ve ever heard. Jimi’s guitar solo is unforgettable. Among the classic rock videos on the YouTube website, I found this gem. In it, Jimi Hendrix performs All Along the Watchtower live at the Isle of White.
All Along the Watchtower was originally written and performed by Bob Dylan. The song is very poetic and contains many biblical and apocalyptic references. Dylan wrote the song while recovering from a motorbike accident and had been reading the Bible quite a lot at the time. Some people think the joker represents Jesus, and the thief is on the cross next to him. However, the lyrics are open to interpretation. What do you think the song is about?

Lyin' Eyes is the Most Realistic of all Classic Rock Songs

The Eagles is one of the better classic rock bands. I like them better than many classic rock bands because their lyrics are clever and their songs are relaxing. My favorite Eagles song is Lyin’ Eyes. I think it’s one of the greatest classic rock songs ever written because it is contains what I think is a universal truth.
According to group biography Hell Freezes Over, the Eagles were struggling in Los Angeles, where they noticed a lot of beautiful women in Hollywood who were married to affluent, flourishing businessmen. They speculated about how happy these woman really were. One night they were drinking in a bar when they spotted a gorgeous young woman with an old, fat, rich guy. One of the band members commented, "Look at her, she can't even hide those lyin’ eyes!”
These words inspired the lyrics of the song. However, the words of this song don’t just apply to Hollywood. They are applicable to most young women who marry an older man for money and security as opposed to love. Lyin’ Eyes is one of the greatest classic rock songs because it serves as a warning to older men and younger women alike. Young women who marry for financial reasons will probably end up miserable. Old men who are foolish enough to think these younger women marry them for love will most likely be cuckolded. Of all classic rock songs, I can’t think of another one with lyrics that are so true.

Classic Rock Bands—Abba Drummer Found Dead in Freak Accident

The sun was setting on the beautiful Spanish island of Mallorca on Monday, March 18th, when long time classic rock bands ABBA drummer Ola Brunkert, 62 walked inside of his villa and closed the sliding glass door. This is where tragedy struck. The glass shattered and a piece cut his neck really badly. The Drummer of one of the most famous classic rock bands to ever grace the stage crumpled to a heap. He woke up and wrapped a towel around his neck and went to go get help—but it was too late. He collapsed on the ground and was pronounced dead by police when they arrived to the scene. ABBA was one of the best selling and most successful of the classic rock bands in the late 70’s and early 80’s….many classifying them as a Swedish pop band—ABBA broke all boundaries. To date they have continued to outsell most classic rock bands—breaking the 370-million records sold mark just this past month. The world will surely miss you Brunkert—who many considered to be one of the better drummers of this generation. Rest in peace Ola, and long live ABBA!
